080 / Darwin’s Frog
’Rhinoderma darwinii’
March 21st
“The most notable feature of Darwin’s Frog is its breeding behaviour.
Females will lay up to forty eggs in leaf litter where the male will guard them for up to a month.
When the embryos begin to move he swallows the eggs and holds them in his vocal sac.
Around three days later they hatch and feed until they develop from tadpoles into frogs, around six weeks.”
