“Humpback whales are migratory and only eat for half of the year.
During the feeding season, they feed for up to twenty-two hours a day, building up fat reserves to see them through migration and the breeding season when they do not eat at all.
They migrate to warmer waters to breed but these are not as rich in food, so the energy needed to hunt would be more than the energy gained from their prey.”
