“The Araripe Manakin is endemic to a plateau in north-eastern Brazil that is only 50km long and 1km wide.
In 2000 it was estimated that only 50 individuals were left and it was considered the rarest bird in Brazil.
In the same year, a theme park was built on the largest part of its original habitat, with trees being replaced by roads, swimming pools and banana plantations, significantly reducing the species range.”
