“Buller’s Albatross is the most common bycatch from longline fisheries in New Zealand and despite dangerous cables being banned in the 1990s, they are still also caught by squid trawlers.
The species is also caught by fisheries in Chile and Peru, with recent studies showing a decline in adult survival where populations were once stable.”
