095 / Emperor Penguin
’Aptenodytes forsteri’
April 5th
“The Emperor Penguin is the world’s largest penguin, standing 1.2 metres (4 feet) tall.
Being this size helps them to conserve heat as they lose less body heat than smaller penguins.
When swimming at sea they often leap into the air, a behaviour known as porpoising which coats their feathers in micro air bubbles, reducing friction underwater.
However it’s also thought that they also do this for fun.”
