’Aix galericulata’
July 15th
“In traditional Chinese, Mandarin Ducks are referred to as 'yuanyang' where 'yuan' (鴛) and 'yang' (鴦) refer to 'male' and 'female' - as they are seen to be lifelong couples, unlike other species of ducks.
As a result, there is a Chinese proverb for loving couples as a metaphor (鴛鴦戲水) - meaning 'Two mandarin ducks playing in water'.”
