“There has been an increase in the number of civets now kept in captivity for the production of civet coffee.
Kopi luwak is prepared using coffee beans that are eaten and partially digested by the civet.
Traditionally, this coffee was made from the faeces of wild civets, but with its increase in popularity, civets are being taken from the wild and fed coffee beans in battery cage systems to mass produce the coffee.”
