057 / Campbell’s Dwarf Hamster
’Phodopus campbelli’
February 26th

(Least Concern)

“The Campbell’s Dwarf Hamster lives in the deserts of central Asia, in burrows consisting of four to six vertical and horizontal tunnels that can be as deep as a metre below the ground.
Burrows are lined with dry grass or sheep’s wool and will often be shared with other rodent species to save them digging their own.
Species that share burrows will have different diets to avoid fighting over the same food.
They also live near human settlements and can be found in yurts keeping warm during the winter, as they do not have thermoregulation like other species.”
