“Over the years there have been many theories as to why zebras evolved striped coats, including temperature regulation, confusing predators and helping to identify individuals.
However, the most likely reason is to repel flies which bite and carry disease.
Flies have compound eyes, receiving information from thousands of receptors, and as the zebras move, the stripes disorient the flies, making it difficult for them to land.”
