087 / Duck-Billed Platypus
’Ornithorhynchus anatinus’
March 28th

(Near Threatened)

“The Platypus is a semiaquatic, egg-laying mammal and the only living member of its taxonomic family.
They sense their prey through echolocation and are one of the few venomous mammals, with the male having a spur on its hind foot which delivers a highly painful venom.
The platypus’ appearance is so unusual consisting of a duck-bill, beaver tail, otter feet, and the ability to lay eggs, that the first scientists to examine a platypus body thought it to be fake and made of several animals sewn together.”
