102 / European Rabbit
’Oryctolagus cuniculus’
April 12th
“Native to Spain and Portugal, the European Rabbit was introduced to the UK by the Normans, but they have now become naturalised and are a common sight.
The first British settlers also introduced them to Australia for hunting and to provide a sense of familiarity for colonists.
Unfortunately, they caused ecological damage and have contributed to the decline of several native Australian species.”
