“Beatrix Potter was very involved with keeping and breeding Herdwicks, even winning multiple prizes for her ewes between 1930-1938 and even being the president for the breed association for a time.
Upon her death in 1943, she gifted 15 farms across Cumbria (over 4000 acres) to the National Trust, which as per her instructions - continue to graze Herdwicks to this day.”
