“Due to the number of the Burmese Star Tortoise being so low, it has been part of several breeding programmes.
Starting in 2004 with 200 individuals, numbers reached 1400 by 2017.
A thousand of these have been reintroduced to the wild, but populations are still threatened as they are commonly exported to China for the food, medicine and pet trades.”
